MY HOME TOWN

Newburgh, NY - Agents from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security led raids on four Newburgh delis and arrested three men, breaking up a massive money laundering ring that sent thousands of dollars a week to Yemen.

Federal authorities became interested when investigators found the stores were transferring sizeable amounts of money to Yemen, whose lax banking laws have made it an attractive money-laundering destination for terrorists.

The men were also cashing out federal WIC cards and food stamps and selling cigarettes at the delis without state tax stamps.
