Veterans Report 5/9/06

Tell us about a Military Spouse
In 1984 President Reagan proclaimed the Friday before Mother's Day of each year to be Military Spouse Appreciation Day.
It is your day to stand up and be honored.

In honor of the Military Spouse Appreciation Day, Military.com is holding its first "Thank a Military Spouse" writing contest! Do you know a great military spouse? Military.com wants to hear it! Send us a short story about a fantastic milspouse for your chance to win a 2 GB Apple iPod nano!
Medal of Honor Fakers Proliferating
There are 113 living recipients of America's highest military award, but an FBI agent says the impostors outnumber the true heroes. This has prompted The Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation to lobby for tougher laws to punish the impostors. Anyone convicted of fraudulently wearing the Medal of Honor faces up to a year in prison and a $100,000 fine.
Veterans Group Issues Warning
Recently, Disabled American Veterans (DAV) has received reports that financial solicitations are being made via telephone in Charlotte and Sarasota Counties in Florida by individuals claiming to be from the "local Disabled American Veterans headquarters." This is an apparent scam. DAV does not ever solicit money or donations through phone calls. If you or someone you know receives solicitation phone calls from anyone claiming to be a representative of DAV, please gather as much information from the caller as possible and contact the DAV immediately. Contact information is available at www.dav.org/contact_us.html.
Do not provide any personal information to solicitors.
